Despite having his undefeated streak snapped at Slammiversary, I strongly believed Crimson would still land a spot in the second annual Bound For Glory Series. While there, Crimson made major strides in the squared circle as well as on the mic. He was able to improve and made the most out of the time he spent at OVW. He announced his intentions to win the Bound For Glory Series but subsequently failed to qualify for the tournament following a loss to Joesph Park.
On July 3, it was announced that Crimson was released from his TNA contract in an effort to cut costs. My immediate thought was why the company would bring him back for one appearance if it intended to get rid of him anyway. Personally, I found the whole thing absolutely asinine. Crimson was green as grass earlier on in his career, but he showed tremendous potential after improving down in OVW. Crimson is 28 years old, which means he still has his entire career ahead of him to find work elsewhere.
Nonetheless, it's a shame that Crimson will be remembered for his lengthy undefeated streak and nothing more in TNA. He had a lot more to offer and it's a shame to see him go so abruptly. The match ended with Mercer, Facade, Johnny Gargano and SJK all tumbling over the top rope at the same time, setting up a four-way decision match for Absolution 5.
After the title was vacated , Mercer entered a tournament to determine the new champion. On June 11, , Mercer was eliminated from the tournament, when his semifinal match against Chase Stevens ended in a double countout. Mercer would finally get the better of Stevens on October 8 , when he was victorious in a Last Man Standing match , which would turn out to be his final match for the promotion.
Crimson vacated the title on October 11 due to an injury. This was followed by another dark match on November 15, in which Mercer was defeated by Stevie Richards. Little Red dominated his debut match, before Jarrett's security guards, Gunner and Murphy , pulled their boss out of the ring and prevented him from re—entering. On the January 13 episode of Impact!
Mayweather, now renamed Crimson , returned, attacking Abyss backstage and promising that "they" would be coming to take out Immortal on February 3. The following week, Crimson repeated his actions from the previous week, this time attacking A.
Later that night, he saved Kurt Angle from Immortal by attacking Abyss with Janice, his nail-covered board, and sidelining him with a storyline injury. On the January 27 episode of Impact!
The match ended with Jarrett pinning Angle for the win.
