The shining who is the man in the bear suit

Wendy Torrance, played by Shelly Duvall frantically roams the halls of the Overlook Hotel looking for her son Danny while her husband, Jack Torrence played by Jack Nicholson goes on an axe rampage. She clutches a knife and slowly ascends up stairs. What she sees when she gets there is a disturbing image of a man in a bear costume performing fellatio on a man in a tuxedo.

From across the hall, they casually look up at her. This imagery in itself is enough to unsettle some people. The shot passes by within 13 seconds and is never referenced again which raises many unanswered questions. Who are these people? It seems ridiculous on the surface, but Ager's in-depth analysis points to some very compelling evidence. One of the most persuasive is the reoccurrence of bear symbolism. For example, during the scene where Danny is speaking to his psychiatrist, he is laying on stuffed bears.

At The Overlook Hotel , there is a picture of two bears above Danny's bed, and there's a prominently featured bear skin rug in the lobby. This provides a clear connection to the notion that bears are associated with Danny Torrance. Keen-eyed viewers have pointed out before that the issue of Playgirl magazine Jack Torrance is reading in one scene has an article titled "Incest: Why Parents Sleep With Their Children" featured on the cover.

Danny's experience in Room when a ball rolls into the room before Wendy comes to his rescue after she hears him screaming is punctuated with the claim that a "crazy woman" strangled him. Room is know for having a female specter, as referenced when Jack encounters a woman in the bath. Ager suggests that Danny's experience in Room was his way of externalizing his abuse, and that it was his father who assaulted him instead. The ball itself is featured in another scene with Jack throwing it against a wall in the hotel lobby.

Ager cites Jack's experience in Room as evidence that he's abusing his son. I get there, though, eventually. A wave of clarity came over me, and I was able to float. Kubrick used a 2-second scene to explain what King did in 2-pages. He told the power dynamic at play with an insinuation of a sexual act. In that brief moment, we see a dog servicing his master just as Roger yapped and howled about at the behest of Mr.

Derwent at the party. This is the brilliance of Stanley Kubrick. He can say so much with so little. And of course, the imagination of Stephen King for dreaming up such an idea in the first place.

I know King has shared his dissatisfaction with the movie before, and his concern is logical. Kubrick made lots of changes, some I can understand but others left me baffled.

Given the medium, Kubrick took a horrifying book and molded it into a spectacular feature film while King did what he does best—weaving a nightmarish story with detail and nuance. My main concern right now is tricking my brother into reading the book. Razor blades on water slides? Aquaslash promises extreme gore and more. Arrow keeps Halloween alive in November.
