When do refunds go out




















Go to the Student Accounts link, then click Direct Deposit and follow the instructions. A refund will be issued shortly after the late registration period. Please refer to the academic calendar to obtain the late registration date for the term. The Office of Student Financial Assistance begins the disbursement process shortly after the drop deadline date.

Once your financial aid is disbursed, you will receive an email notification. Most people will get their tax refund within three weeks, but it varies based on how you file and how you get your refund. If you submit your tax return electronically, you can check the status of your refund within 24 hours. Keep in mind that usually you can file your taxes in January. That may require further identity verification and delay your tax refund.

Most taxpayers receive their refunds within 21 days. If you choose to have your refund deposited directly into your account, you may have to wait five days before you can gain access to it. For direct deposit into your bank account, enroll now and set up your account with Student Choice Refunds. If you have a profile established with Nelnet, an email will be sent to you when a refund has been uploaded to Student Choice Refunds which informs you of the amount and when the money will be deposited in your designated account.

Please allow two weeks after funds have been credited as "paid" for your refund to be processed. If receiving paper check, please allow additional mailing time. The Business Office will not consider a check lost in the mail until two weeks after the mail date. If you are eligible for a replacement check, you will need to complete the Replacement Check Affidavit form and upload the form through your FIU student portal.

In order to receive a replacement check, you are required to either add direct deposit or update your home address to a US postal address. Replacement checks can take up to two weeks to be completed.
